How to Use DSM-5 to find definitions and diagnostic criteria

Searching DSM-5:

  1. Open Articles & Databases and click "D".
  2. Open DSM-5 . (Login using your CCM login.)
  3. Click DSM Library (top left) and open DSM-5.
  4. Now open Section II: Diagnostic Criteria and Codes.
  5. Select the assignment disorder and read the entry.
  6. Special note - see the pink boxes describing the Diagnostic Criteria for each disorder. 
  7. Use Share to email this to yourself.

DSM-5 What is it?

From the American Psychiatric Association:

DSM-5 is used by health professionals, social workers, and forensic and legal specialists to diagnose and classify mental disorders, and is the product of more than 10 years of effortby hundreds of international experts in all aspects of mental health. It is also a necessary tool for collecting and communicating accurate public health statistics.

Citing the DSM-5

The DSM is cited in a very specific way. Please look in the front of the DSM (or refer to the APA website)  to look at the proper format. The Writing Center on campus is available for citation help!
