Find an overview of the topic in an online reference book

Get background information on your topic from an online reference book.  A reference book should only be used for background information and to help you formulate a draft of your thesis statement.  It is not an appropriate source to quote, paraphrase and cite in the body of your paper.

Search Gale Ebooks/ Gale Virtual Reference Library

Go to www.ccm.edu/library and click on  ARTICLES & DATABASES

Scroll down and click on Gale Ebooks/ Formerly known as the Gale Virtual Reference Library

Enter your Username (lastname.firstname) and your Password (ccm plus 7 digit student ID)

In the subject column on the left side, click on LITERATURE

In the “Search within Literature” box, type in your author (Tennessee Williams), then select a work by that author on the results list

 

Find books in the CCM library catalog

Find longer works of criticism on your author’s body of work by searching  the library catalog.  For print books, please note the call number and consult a library staff member. Ebooks may be accessed from home with your CCM account. 

Finding monograph books and e-books

Search the library catalog (Note: default searches for Books & E-books.  For DVDs or Music CDs/Audiobooks, choose the tab for the proper format.)

For criticism about your author, written by other scholars

Go to www.ccm.edu/library

Click on Books (and Ebooks, DVDs, CDs.) 

In the search box, type su: Firstname Lastname  (Example =  su: Tennessee Williams). Search.

For print books-

Note the availability and the call number.  Circulating print books may be checked out for 4 weeks.

For ebooks-

Select ebooks on the left column of the results page

Click on the "View E-book" button.  Enter your CCM Username  (lastname.firstname) and your Password (ccm plus 7 digit student ID)

 

Find scholarly journal articles in the online databases

Find scholarly articles on your topics in the library databases.

Go to www.ccm.edu/library and click on ARTICLES & DATABASES

Click on one of the following databases:   MLA International Bibliography, Literary Sources/Gale Literature, or JSTOR

Enter your CCM username and password when prompted

Search for the title of your work and your author.

Example: Glass Menagerie AND Williams.
