Introduction to Criminology: Assignment-Articles

How to Find Articles about Your Topic

To locate articles about your topic, you will need to use CCM Library's Databases. There are three databases suggested for this assignment: Criminal Justice, One File, Forensic Science (an e-book), and Academic Search Premier. All three databases can be found on our databases page:

  1. Go to http://www.ccm.edu/library
  2. Click on the link to Articles and Databases.
  3. Find your database alphabetically.
  • Criminal Justice, OneFile is a subject-specific Gale database with a focus on criminal justice articles.
  • To search, type your keyword(s) in the search box.
  • Search through the results to find articles of interest.
  • Once you find an article of interest, you can download it to your device (if using your own), send it to your email, or save it to your Google Drive or OneDrive.
  • The Cite tab on Gale will give you a draft citation. This citation may have to be edited but it is a good start (see the citation tab).
  • Scroll to the bottom of the article to see more articles like the one you read. Also see related subjects for subject ideas.
  • Forensic Science is a Salem Press e-book available to search or browse topics.
  • To search, type your keyword(s) into the search box.
  • Choose articles(s) of intereste to read.
    • Each article you use in your paper will be a separate citation.
  • Once you find an article to keep, you can print the article, email it to yourself, or save to your Google Drive (options on the left side of the screen).
  • The Article Citation link will give you a citation draft. As with the other databases, be aware of current citation rules and edit citations before handing in your final paper.
  • At the bottom of the article, find "See also" articles, articles that are similar to the one you've read.
  • Academic Search Premier is an EBSCO database with access to popular and scholarly journal articles.
  • To search, type your search term(s) into the box.
    • To limit to only full-text articles, click the box under Full Text.
    • To limit by date of publication, type in parameters in the Published Date box.
  • Once you find an article of interest, look at the bar on the right side of the screen. You can save the article to Google Drive or OneDrive, print it, email it to yourself or save it to your device.
  • The Cite link will give you a draft citation. Make sure you choose the correct citation style.
  • See the linked subject terms at the top of the article for more ideas.
