English Comp 1: Advanced Article Search: Search for Articles and Essays

Go to https://www.ccm.edu/student-support/library/   Click on Library Start Page.   

You may also just go directly to the Library Start Page at ccm.libguides.com/Library

Once on the Library Start Page, click on Assignments. 

Click on Database List.

Scroll down and click on General Onefile

Note: if you are off-campus, you will be prompted to log into the CCM proxy server.  

Click on Advanced Search

In the top box, enter your author's name.  Select Author in the drop-down "Field" menu.

In the middle box, enter a keyword term, such as housing or  opioid. 

Click SEARCH.

From the search results page, click on either News or Magazines, from the bar on the top.

On the right side, click on the box for Publication Title. 

• For the News collection, put a check in the boxes of all of the following titles when available:
• The New York Times, New York Times Digital, International New York times.

If you don't find an article, use your back button to your original results list, and switch to the Magazine collection on the top bar. Click on Publication Title on the right side.

• Put a check in the box of New York Times Magazine. 

Click on the title of an article that was published close to the date of the reading suggested. 

You may print, save or download the article.

A draft of an MLA citation is provided under "Cite", but may have some errors. Please review and edit before turning in. 

Hint:  at the top right side of the article, click on GET LINK and copy the permanent URL to use in the citation. A permalink will allow the reader to immediately go to the full text of an article, although the CCM proxy server username and password must be entered when prompted.  See details on the Search from Home tab.
